Johannesburg, South Africa, May 4, 2023 – With the vision of Lighting up Africa one community at a time, Genesis Energy (GENESIS) is a leading energy infrastructure developer and climate impact investor that is driving positive social, economic, and environmental impact across Africa.
GENESIS is dedicated to empowering not only industries but the young people within the communities the company operates, positioning itself as a force for socio-economic progress on the continent. In line with its mission, GENESIS takes great pride in participating in one of the Imbumba Foundation’s initiatives for Corporate Social Responsibility.
As a Corporate sponsor, it is a privilege for GENESIS to provide support to such a worthy cause – the Trek4Mandela – which raises awareness and funds, for the Caring4Girls programme, which is to end period poverty due to a shortage of sanitary towels for young girls in honour of the great Father of the South African nation, Tata Nelson Mandela. The Nelson Mandela Foundation, a strategic partner of the Trek4Mandela programme and Imbumba Foundation, have been endorsing the Trek4Mandela programme with their CEO, Mr Sello Hatang having summited Mount Kilimanjaro 5 times, in support of the Trek4Mandela programme.
While access to personal hygiene is a basic human need to sustaining human dignity, GENESIS understands that the struggle for appreciation of human basic needs continues on the African continent. Therefore, part of our vision of lighting up Africa one community at a time is being achieved with a disciplined approach to our obligations and extreme dedication to our corporate goals.
GENESIS is sponsoring Noluthando Sithole Co-Founder of Children of Success to summit Kilimanjaro on 18 July 2023 with the Trek4Mandela Programme. Children of Success is a Non-Profit Organisation which aims to alleviate poverty by reducing the plight of teen pregnancy and increasing the financial literacy levels of rural and township communities. To date, Children of Success has impacted over 7,000 teenagers through their programme.
Noluthando highlighted how grateful she is to the GENESIS sponsorship, as the “opportunity provide me with space to continue to hold space for young girls and be a goalkeeper for Sustainable Development Goal Number 5: Gender equality, with a struggle that consistently impact me as a woman in Corporate and Social Activist.”
GENESIS is elated to give additional support to the Trek4Mandela 2023 climbers by donating solar lights with hopes that these lights will provide the much-needed illumination to the climbers at dusk.
“We are grateful to GENESIS for their support towards our noteworthy causes. They are sponsoring a climber to attempt to reach the highest peak in Africa to aid in alleviating period poverty. Furthermore, they will be ‘lighting up Africa’ with solar headlamps to assist the climbers this year during their Kilimanjaro climb. It is through such partnerships, that we are able to empower girl children by keeping them in school,” says Sina Moyane, Trek4Mandela & Communications Manager.
Genesis Energy’s Corporate Responsibility Portfolio comprise Economic Responsibility, Social Responsibility and Environmental Responsibility. The Trek4Mandela initiative aligns with the Company’s Social Responsibility, which encompass:
- Personnel’s welfare, skills, and motivation.

Mrs. Melissa Sikwila, Group Executive Director: Project Development and Strategy, commented: “At GENESIS our guiding principles are Power, People and Progress” Our participation and backing of Trek4Mandela, Children of Success and the Imbumba Foundation reflect these essential pillars as we work towards lighting up Africa one community at a time.
